China holds India responsible for 'stand off 'in Sikkim sector; No reaction from Defence Ministry

New Delhi/Beijing, June 28 (UNI) China today held India responsible for the on-going stand off in the Sikkim sector and also for the closure of the Nathu La pass after Indian troops reportedly halted a Chinese road project in the region. China also hinted that India might be ‘’interfering in its territorial dispute with Bhutan with a ‘’hidden agenda’’. Meanwhile, there were also media reports that China had destroyed an old bunker of the Indian Army constructed at the trijunction of the India, China and Bhutan in Sikkim after the Indian Army refused to remove it. However, there was no response from the Defence Ministry in New Delhi when contacted about the report. Earlier in the day, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Kang said in Beijing that the construction of road by Beijing was normal action on its territory. "Bhutan is a universally recognised sovereign country by the international community. We hope counties can respect sovereignty of Bhutan. Though the boundary between China and Bhutan has not been delimited, no third party should interfere in this matter and make any irresponsible remarks or action," she said. ‘’The liability lies totally with the Indian side,’’ the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson said in Beijing when asked when the Nathu la pass will be opened. China had stopped the first batch of 50 pilgrims to Kailash Mansarovar Yatra during the border stand off in the nearby Doka la in mid June. Reacting to these reports, External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Gopal Baglay, replying to question from media, had last week said,’’ "Yes, there are some difficulties being experienced in movement of KMY Yatris via Nathu La. Matter is being discussed with Chinese side." Lu said suspension of arrangements was an emergency measure China had taken in response to the situation. ‘’I want to stress that the resumption of pilgrims path requires necessary atmosphere and conditions. When it reopens depends all on whether the Indian side corrects its errors,’’ she said. This year 350 pilgrims, out of the 1,430 were set to go through Nathu La, while the rest are set to go through the old Lipulekh in Uttarakhand. Two days back, another Spokesperson of China’s Foreign Ministry Geng Shuang had said Indian guards obstructed normal activities, and called on India to withdraw immediately. He officially confirmed that China had already suspended official pilgrimages at the Nathu La Pass, which lies on the Sikkim-Tibet border. In separate statement China’s Defence Ministry described the ‘’obstruction of work’’ by India as serious act threatening peace on the border. The Ministry of Defence here has not yet reacted to the Chinese accusations of India guards crossing into its territory from Sikkim. UNI NAZ SHK 2035
