CBI seeks centre's permission to reopen Bofors case

CBI seeks centre's permission to reopen Bofors case

New Delhi, Oct 21 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sought permission from the Centre to allow it to file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court, challenging the Delhi High Court's order in Bofors case. "CBI in its letter to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) stated that it wanted to file SLP in the Apex court in Bofors case challenging Delhi High Court's 2005 order of quashing all charges against the Europe based Hinduja brothers," sources said here on Saturday. They said that the then UPA government had not given its consent though the CBI was in favour of filing the SLP in 2005. On May 31, 2005, Justice RS Sodhi, the then Delhi High Court Judge, had quashed all charges against the Bofors company and the Hinduja brothers. The Judge had also castigated the CBI for its handling of the case and said that it had cost the exchequer around Rs 250 crore. UNI DS/VT AKC1556
