India, UK enter partnership to take Indian innovations to developing world

New Delhi, May 5 (UNI) India and the UK have forged a global partnership to take Indian innovations to the developing world.
The two countries on Tuesday launched the UK-India Global Innovation Partnership, which will co-invest in health and climate innovations from India to transform the lives of people across Asia, Africa, and the Indian Ocean.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Boris Johnson in their virtual summit welcomed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the innovation partnership
The new India-UK Global Innovation Partnership would support the "transfer of inclusive Indian innovations to select developing countries, starting with Africa."
said the Prime Ministers Office.
The UK is India's second largest partner in research and innovation collaborations.
The Partnership also includes extension of the UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) to conclude its work in bringing higher education and research sectors, and the people who work in them, closer together.
The partnership will see increased cooperation between British and Indian universities on crucial research in areas like health, emerging technologies, and climate science – and bringing enterprises together to propel ground-breaking innovations to communities that need them most.
The two countries agreed to enhance cooperation on new and emerging technologies, including digital and ICT products, said the PMO.
India has a long history of technology cooperation with Africa -- an essential element of it's development cooperation since mid 1960s when the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme was launched.
Today, the cooperation covers an range of areas like agriculture, renewable energy, and information technology and healthcare.
