New Delhi, Nov 24 (UNI) By-elections to Dr Radhakrishnan Nagar (RK Nagar) Assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu and four other segments spread across Uttar Pradesh, Bengal and Arunachal Pradesh will be held on December 21, the Election Commission announced here on Friday.
The other four constituencies are Sikandara (Uttar Pradesh), Pakke-Kasang and Likbali (Arunachal Pradesh) and Sabang (Bengal).
Results will be announced on 24th December.
The April 10 by-election to RK Nagar constituency, the vacancy caused by the death of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayaram Jayalalithha, was cancelled after reports of widespread cash distribution.
The Madras High Court on Tuesday asked the EC to conduct the by-poll before 31st December.
All India Anna Dravidra Munnetra Kazagham (AIADMK) chieftain J Jayalalithaa had passed away in 2016 December.
Filing of nominations will open on November 27 and end on December 4. Scrutiny will take place on December 5 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is 7th December.
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) with Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trial (VVPAT) will be used in all the five constituencies. The model code of conduct comes into force from today, the EC said.
On Thursday, the Election Commission had allotted the poll symbol of two leaves to the group headed by TN Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam.
Sikandara seat in Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh fell vacant after sitting Bharatiya Janata Party member Mathura Prasad Pal died on July 22 following a prolonged illness.
Sabang seat comes under Paschim Medinipur district of Bengal.
Pakke-Kasang forms part of Arunachal Pradesh West Lok Sabha constituency while Likabala comes under Arunachal East LS seat.
