Book on Parliamentary Elections released at World Book Fair

New Delhi, Jan 8 (UNI) A book titled 'Election Atlas of India', which depicts the journey of progression
of Parliamentary Elections since Independence in the context of the changing socio-political and
demographic scenario, was released on Monday at the World Book Fair in New Delhi.
The Atlas unravels statistics behind Parliamentary Elections from the first Lok Sabha (1952) to the
16th Lok Sabha (2014) – duly updated for the October 2017 bye-elections – using thematic maps,
graphs, charts and tonnes of data.
Carrying a Foreword by Former Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi, the book is edited and
published by Dr R K Thukral, Director – Datanet India.
In the Foreword, Dr Zaidi, notes: “The Atlas uses statistical data collected and collated at various
levels about electors, candidates, gender and marginalised sections in terms of electoral participation
and many other consequential factors related to elections. These new parameters and aspects are
depicted in the form of impressive graphs, charts and thematic maps based on GIS technology with
tremendous clarity. The Atlas also highlights historical data about bye-elections in Parliamentary
Constituencies and alteration in constituencies following the delimitations and also during the
reorganization of states.”
