Delhi Assy passes resolution to protect slum dwellers from eviction

New Delhi, Sep 14 (UNI) In it's one-day special session, the Delhi Assembly on Monday passed a resolution against eviction of slum dwellers, stating that in the midst of the raging Novel Coronavirus pandemic, such displacement will only exacerbate the prevailing situation.
''Rehabilitation must precede any attempts at eviction of these residents or demolition of their houses. This is the minimum guarantee held out by our Constitution, especially Article 21,'' read the resolution, which was passed by the House by voice vote, after a marathon discussion.
''All authorities and agencies, whether of the Central or state government, must work in unison and in tandem, to ensure that the interests of residents of 48,000 households is given due protection, in accordance with law,'' it added.
