EntertainmentPosted at: Aug 20 2024 10:08PM Filmmaker Utpalendu Chakrabarty dies aged 76Kolkata, Aug 20 (UNI) Award-winning movie director Utpalendu Chakraborty, whose Choke (eye) and Moyna Tadanta (postmortem) had received huge debates among the critics, died at his Regent Park residence in south Kolkata on Tuesday.Survived by his two daughters, the filmmaker was almost bed-ridden after a fall at his home a few months ago. His end came around 5:50 p.m. today."Sad at the demise of eminent film director Utpalendu Chakrabarty. His films were critically acclaimed and received distinguished awards. His demise will create a void in our film industry. My condolences to his family and friends," West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said in a condolence message.Born in 1948 in Pabna district. Chakraborty had graduated from the Scottish Church College, entered student politics, and spent quality time among the tribals in Purulia.Although he started out as a teacher, his passion was cinema.
