76th Emmy Awards race officially kicks off, prime nominees include ‘Severance’, ‘Penguin’, ‘The Diplomat’

Los Angeles, July 15 (UNI) The race for the 76th Emmy Awards, 2025 has officially kicked off, with the first round of nominations unveiled on CBS Mornings Tuesday, reports Deadline.

Categories for Outstanding Reality Competition Program and Outstanding Talk Series were announced live, setting the stage for what looks to be a very competitive race, featuring many heavy hitters.

The complete list of nominees will be revealed at 8:30 a.m. PT by actors Harvey Guillen, known for 'What We Do in the Shadows', and Brenda Song, star of 'Running Point'.

The competition between major streaming services will particularly be dominating the affair, with Apple TV+ expected to leading the way with its critically acclaimed serials 'Severance', starring Adam Scott, and Seth Rogen’s sharp Hollywood satire 'The Studio'. Other Apple originals generating buzz include spy thriller 'Slow Horses', dramedy 'Shrinking', and courtroom drama 'Presumed Innocent'.

Netflix is also a major contender this year, and expected to lead the anthology series section with its show 'Adolescence'. The streamer’s other offerings this year include its renowned political drama 'The Diplomat', the dark comedy 'Nobody Wants This', and the dystopian series 'Black Mirror'.

Meanwhile, HBO — now rebranded back as Max — is also bringing some serious heat to the table, returning with fan favourites and new entries alike, with 'Hacks', 'The Penguin', and 'The White Lotus' all being tipped for nominations in major categories.

The award ceremony is set for Sunday, September 14 and will be hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze. The event will be held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and streamed live on Paramount+.

Among the first nominations to be confirmed, 'The Traitors', 'RuPaul’s Drag Race', 'The Amazing Race', 'Survivor' and 'Top Chef' will vie for Outstanding Reality Competition Program.

In the Outstanding Talk Series category, 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!', 'The Daily Show', and 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' are in contention.
