DSGMC Chief meets Meghalaya Gov, seeks his intervention in relocation of Dalit Sikhs in Shillong

Shillong Oct 14 (UNI) A high level delegation of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has sought the intervention of Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik against the government’s announcement to relocate the Safai Karamcharis (sweepers) of the Shillong Municipal Board from the present location of Them Iew Mawlong.
The government decision was the outcome of the recommendations of the High Level Committee (HLC) headed by Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong on September 28.
Addressing journalists soon after leaving Raj Bhavan, Sardar Manjinder Singh Sirsa, the DSGMC president said, “We met Satya Pal Malik and discussed the decision to forcefully evict the residents of Sweeper’s Colony and the order passed by the Meghalaya cabinet to carry out the same within a week,” while informing that Malik has assured the delegation that no one would be relocated without due process of law.
