Congress attacks Meghalaya govt. over delay in appointing new CIC & Women's Commission chairperson

Shillong, Sep 13 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in the Meghalaya Assembly Dr. Mukul Sangma on Monday hit out at the Conrad Sangma-led government over the delay in appointing a new Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and non-constitution of a new body of the Meghalaya State Women Commission (MSWC), saying that the government doesn’t want these kind of institutions which are capable of empowering people and identifying instances of irregularities and alleged corruption.
“The non-appointment means because it is happening on the ground that is why they want to ensure that it (corruption) is not there,” Sangma alleged, talking to reporters.
The former chief minister also alleged that the government in its three and half years in office is attempting to weaken the Lokayukta which was designed to deter the tendency of corruption at the high offices.
