Meghalaya BJP demands arrest of illegal coal transporters

Shillong, Oct 8 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a constituent of the National People’s Party (NPP)-led ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), on Thursday demanded “immediate arrest” of the people involved in illegal coal transportation from the state.
“Home Minister Lakhmen Rymbui should order immediate arrest of the people involved in the illegal coal racket which was cracked by the Assam Police a day ago. The Home Minister should not act arbitrarily when it has come to light that Power Minister James Sangma was involved,” a statement issued by Meghalaya State BJP vice- president Bernard Marak said.
“Rymbui opposed CBI inquiry in the scams in GHADC (Garo Hills Autonomous District Council) and this seems to be the reason why they did not allow a CBI inquiry because they are involved in illegal and unlawful activities. Former home minister James Sangma was removed for his involvement in illegal coal transportation and he seems to be still controlling the coal mafia network,” Marak alleged.
