Congress suspends MLA Sherman Ali for making provocative and communal statement

Guwahati, Oct 4 (UNI) Congress MLA Sherman Ali who was arrested for making communal provocative remarks was suspended from the party for “repeatedly violating party discipline”.
The decision of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) comes after Ali’s failure to reply to the show-cause notice served to him.
Ali was arrested by police on Saturday from his residence in MLA Hostel at Dispur for making “communal and provocative” remarks.
The order, issued by Bobbeeta Sharma, general secretary, APCC, says: “Hon’ble president APCC Bhupen Kumar Borah has suspended Sri Sherrnan Ali Ahmed, member ACLP from Congress Party with immediate effect for repeatedly violating party discipline.”
The Assam Congress served a show-cause notice to Sherman Ali on October 1, 2021 for his remarks against martyrs of Assam agitation and was given three days time to submit his reply.
As the MLA failed to reply within three days of the issuance of the notice, APCC president Bhupen Kumar Borah ordered his suspension from the party on Monday with immediate effect.
Sherman Ali is currently under the custody of the Assam Police.
The court remanded Baghbor MLA Ali to two-day police custody with effect from Sunday.
MLA Ali in a statement in the backdrop of eviction drive which turned violent, justified the killing of eight people in Darrang district in 1983 during the Assam agitation, who were declared martyrs.
