After Nehru, Congress formed governments due to sympathy wave: Samrat

Patna, June 11 (UNI) Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Samrat Chaudhary on Wednesday said after the Nehru era, the Congress mostly formed governments at the Centre due to sympathy waves while Prime Minister Narendra Modi got the mandate of the people based on his work for development and welfare of the people.
Chaudhary told media persons here that after the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, her son Rajiv Gandhi won the general election in 1984 with a thumping majority due to a sympathy wave. Similarly, Congress returned to power in 1991 after Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated, he pointed out.
The Deputy Chief Minister, also a senior BJP leader, said his party led NDA got 75 percent marks in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a reference to the NDA bagging 30 of the total 40 seats in Bihar. It could have been better, had NDA got 90 percent marks, he added, alluding to the party's target of winning at least 36 seats in the state.
