Opposition staring defeats, putting pressure to defer Bihar Assembly poll : Modi

Pàtna, July 8 (UNI) Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi today alleged that fearing certain defeats, opposition parties were putting pressure to defer Bihar Assembly Elections slated for October- November this year.

Mr Modi said that opposition parties were putting pressure to defer Assembly Elections, an essential process in democratic set up. When Railways, Domestic Flights, Hotels and Tourists Spots were being opened with care during the the Corona pandemic, why should not Assembly Elections be held in Bihar, he asked.

The Chief Minister said that Election Commission had made all arrangements for conducting Bihar Assembly Elections in accordance with guidelines and precautions required to be taken during the Corona pandemic. Additional 33,797 polling stations would be set up during the Assembly Elections in Bihar to ensure social distancing among the voters during the polling, he added.

Mr Modi said that norms for holding rallies and and voting would also be changed to protect the voters from any possibility of getting infected with coronavirus. Digital rally would also be of immense use for campaigning and it was eco-friendly as well, he noted.

The Deputy Chief Minister said, opposition parties had understood the fact that they would face defeats in election, so started exerting pressure to defer the polling. It would not be proper to place Bihar under President's rule by deferring the elections slated for October- November this year, he remarked.
