RJD, Congress always ditched EBCs : Modi

Pàtna, Jun 29 (UNI) Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi today alleged that Congress and RJD had always been ditching Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs) since long.

Mr Modi, while addressing a virtual meeting organised by BJP and Executive Committee of Other Backward Classes (OBCs), said that Congress and RJD had always been ditching backward community since long.

They suppressed the voice of backwards and had taken repressive measures against them while in power, he added.

" In 1953, the then Congress government had constituted Kaka Kalekar Committee but its report received in 1955, was kept in cold storage for 45 years," Deputy Chief Minister said adding that the Congress government had neither constituted Backward Commission nor provided reservation to them in government services.

When Janata Party was voted to power in 1977, Mandal Commission was constituted in 1978 which submitted its report in 1980, he further added.

Mr Modi said senior BJP leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani were in Mandal Commission.

The report submitted in 1980 was kept unattended as Congress was then in power at the Centre, he further said adding that the recommendation of Mandal Commission giving 27 per cent to Other Backward Classes (OBCs) was implemented when V P Singh government was formed

with support of BJP at the Centre.
