Assam RS MP questions govt reluctance to include 6 communities in ST list

Guwahati, Aug 3 (UNI) Terming Prime Minister Narendra Modi a ‘liar’, Rajya Sabha member from Assam Ajit Kumar Bhuyan today accused the BJP-led central and state governments of not resolving longstanding demands of the people in the name of vote bank politics.
Referring specifically to non-inclusion of six communities of the state in Scheduled Tribe (ST) list, Bhuyan said, “Prior to becoming the prime minister, Modi had promised of granting ST status to the six communities of the state, thereby implying his acceptance of the demand. Committees and departments under the Central government had after that said that the ST status can be accorded.”
“But there is reluctance on part of the government as they want to keep the issue alive for vote bank politics. But people have realized that the government are using such issues as political baits only,” he added.
