AASU-AJYCP join hands to form ‘Assam Jatiya Parishad’ ahead of next year’s Assam polls

Guwahati, Sep 14 (UNI) Thirty-five years after regional students and youth organisations had come together to float Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) that went on to become the first regional political party in Assam to form the government, two of these organisations today joined hands to float ‘Assam Jatiya Parishad’ (AJP), another regional political party with eye on next year’s state Assembly elections.
The All Assam Students Union (AASU) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), which had last week announced of forming a political party, announced the name of the new party as Assam Jatiya Parishad.
Jagdish Bhuyan has been named as the convener of the new party, which shall be based on the motto ‘Assam First: Always and Ever’ with the theme ‘Ghore ghore ami’ (we, in every household).

COVID-19: Toll in Bengal rises to 6,604, cases touch 3,57,779

Kolkata, Oct 27 (UNI) The COVID-19 toll in Bengal rose to 6,604 with the death of 58
persons on Tuesday, while the tally touched 3,57,779 with 3,957 new confirmed cases.
According to the latest State Government Health bulletin, the active cases accounted
for 37,172, while the number of discharged cases stood at 3,14,003.
The percentage of discharged rose to 87.76 per cent.
