Pig deaths cross 12k mark in Mizoram

Aizawl, Sept 5 (UNI) Nearly 12,000 pigs (11,984) have died in Mizoram due to resurgence of African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak, while 20,591 pigs have been culled during this year, state animal husbandry and veterinary department officials said on Thursday.
The officials said that as of Thursday, 224 villages are being declared infested across the state.
Daily pig casualties on Thursday in five districts—Aizawl, Lunglei, Serchhip, Kolasib, and Hnahthial—were 59 as against 312 pig deaths on Tuesday, which saw a surge in the daily casualties. A small Ailawng village near Aizawl alone recorded 132 deaths, followed by Lungverh’s 127.
