Fresh two-week jail remand for Partha Chatterjee in SSC scam case

Kolkata, Oct 31 (UNI) Rejecting an appeal for bail, a special court here on Monday extended by 14 days the judicial custody of former West Bengal education minister Partha Chatterjee and six other present and former officials in the alleged state School Service Commission scam.
The special CBI court of Alipore gave the order after hearing arguments and counter-arguments presented by the prosecution and the defence in connection with the scam that involves alleged irregularities in the recruitment of Group ‘C’ & ‘D’ staff, assistant teachers of classes IX-XII and primary school teachers.
The court rejected the bail petition of Chatterjee, who was present physically. Chatterjee's counsel had pleaded for bail on any condition, which was turned down by the judge.
