Janmashtami celebrated in Manipur without fanfare and mass gatherings

Imphal, Aug 12 (UNI) Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated in Manipur without any fanfare and mass gatherings.
Prayers, rituals were performed at Shri Shri Govindajee temple, ISKCON temple and other temples without the presence of devotees.
Entry of visitors to all main temples was blocked due to the complete lockdown in Manipur.
Most of the places specially in the capital city were declared as containment zones as local transmission was reported in the city areas.
Governor Dr Najma Heptulla said in a message, "Krishna Janmashtami celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, an incarnation of God on this earth. His timeless teaching of karma to Arjuna in the battlefield of Kurukshetra signifies the worship of work and carrying out one's duties without any expectation of reward.
"It also symbolises the essence of truth and will forever remain the guiding principle of mankind. On this day, let us remind ourselves of the teachings of Lord Krishna and propagate love and affection for all and usher in an era of peace and prosperity in Manipur."
Chief Minister N Biren Singh said, "I convey my warm greetings and good wishes to the people of the State especially our Hindu brothers and sisters on the occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami.
"On this auspicious day celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, let us strive to free our minds and deeds of evil and fill them with compassion, sharing and love.
"May Lord Krishna bless our lives with peace, prosperity and happiness."
