Chaibasa, Jan 4 (UNI) In a major incident, ultras belonging to the proscribed CPI Maoists attacked former BJP MLA Gurucharan Nayak at a public function in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district on Tuesday, killing two of his bodyguards.
Another jawan managed to flee and save his life. The former MLA himself with the help of villagers escaped from the spot and managed to reach Sonuwa Police Station.
Gurucharan Nayak, a former legislator of Manoharpur, was participating in a sports competition
prize distribution programme which was being held at Project school Jheelruwan under Goeilkera
Police Station area. The incident took place between 6-6.15 pm.
Police sources said that the Maoists before fleeing from the spot looted the weapons of all the three bodyguards of the former MLA. The martyr jawans have been identified as Shankar Nayak and Thakur
Hembrom.
The jawan who managed to escape has been identified as Ram Tudu.
Police sources claimed that nearly 100 Maoists took part in the attack. When the ultras opened fire, the former BJP MLA was addressing the people.
On the other hand, the villagers claimed that the Maoists slit the throat of the jawans. However,
a district police officer only said both of them have been murdered.
