Historic Rath Yatra mela not to take place in Ranchi, temple committee waiting for government directions

Ranchi, Jun 5 (UNI) The 329 years old historic Rath Yatra mela which is organised in the Jaggarnathpur of the state capital will not be happening this year however the Rath Yatra of Lord Jaggannath will be taken out by the temple authorities over which they are waiting for instructions from the government.

On Friday the ritual of 'maha-asnan' of Lord Jaggannath, his sister Subhadra and brother Balram was performed after which in the afternoon Lord Jaggannath went into a period of 15 days of 'Ekantvash'.

The members of the temple committee said that by following the directions of the government Lord Jaggannath will go to Mausibari but this time Mela will not be organised. The historic Mela has been happening in the temple premises since the year 1691.

Chief priest of the temple Brajbhushan Nath Mishr said that this year no major arrangements have been made and even the process of building the Rath for the Lord has not commenced properly.

He said that as per tradition from the auspicious day of Akshya Trtitya the process of repair of rath used to commence but this time only one person has been kept by the temple authorities for the work. The chief priest said that the temple committee wants to take the government and administration together in yatra as for everyone safety is a must.
