CUJ researchers use science to safeguard Ladakh’s Buddhist heritage

Ranchi, Aug 2 (UNI) On a high-altitude trail leading to the thousand-year-old Karsha monastery in Zanskar, scientists from the Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) stood shoulder to shoulder with Ladakhi monks. A traditional khata scarf draped around their shoulders, the researchers quietly installed a weather monitoring station just outside the monastery walls.
This convergence of geoinformatics and Buddhist monastic life marks the beginning of a project that blends tradition with modern scientific practice to protect important spiritual and cultural sites in Ladakh.
A team of three professors from CUJ is leading a three-year project titled “Field-based 3D Laser Scanner Structural Mapping and Monitoring of Buddhist Monasteries for Conservation Planning Incorporating Natural Hazards in parts of Lahaul-Spiti, Ladakh, Cold Desert Region of India.”

Bhubaneswar, Jun 14 (UNI) Odisha's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll has entered its final phase, with enumeration forms reaching a record 98.65 per cent of the state's electorate, reflecting significant progress in the drive to ensure an accurate and updated voter database.
According to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) released yesterday, enumeration forms had been distributed to 3,29,64,501 voters across the state as of 6 p.m. on June 13, covering nearly the entire electorate.
