Bhubaneswar, Jan 17 (UNI) Odisha reported 10,489 new covid positive cases in the past 24 hours, less than 688 cases recorded on the previous day, taking the tally in the state to 11,44,401.
This was the fifth consecutive day the state reported more than 10,000 covid positive cases from all the 30 districts in the state.
Official sources said out of 10489 new infections, 6082 were reported from the quarantine centres and 4407 as local contact cases.
As many as 982 positive cases were recorded in the age groups of 0 to 18 years while Khordha district registered the highest number of 2934 cases followed by Sudargarh (1447), Cuttack ( 786), Balasore ( 433) and Sambalpur( 387 ).
These five districts together accounted for 53.75 per cent of the new cases in the state.
During the last 24 hours, three more deaths were reported in the ongoing health audit pushing the total fatalities in the state to 8484. They included two from Khordha district and one from Angul district.
The number of active cases further jumped to 75,797 of which Khordha district alone recorded 24,764 cases followed by Sundargarh ( 10,325), Cuttack ( 5545), Sambalpur (4011) and Balasore(2686).
These five districts have been declared as Red Zones contributing 62.4 per cent of the total active cases in the state.
On the report of active cases, nine districts were declared as Yellow Zones while the other 16 districts as Green Zones.
Sources said 4452 covid patients were cured of the virus on Sunday taking the total recoveries in the state to 10,60,067.
The daily test positivity rate stood at 14.9 per cent on Monday showing a marginal rise in comparison to 14.5 per cent recorded on the previous day.
As many as 16 of the total 30 districts in the state have been declared as Red Zones due to a high positivity rate varying from 7.5 per cent to as high as 35 per cent while seven districts each have been categorized as Yellow and Green Zones.
Sundargarh district in Western Odisha recorded the highest TPR of 35.5 per cent followed by Khordha(24.3 per cent), Sonepur (15.2 per cent), Rayagada(15.1 per cent), Cuttack ( 14.2 per cent) and Bolangir ( 14.1 per cent).
