Week-long lockdown begins in Nagaland

Kohima May 15 (UNI) The week-long Lock-down recommended by the Nagaland High Powered Committee on COVID-19, which decided to impose a State-wide total lockdown for a period of seven days following a surge of COVID positive cases in the State, began throughout the state since last evening.

Official sources said that the week-long total lockdown, to contain the spread of coronavirus, came into effect from 6 PM last evening and will remain in effect till May 21. District Task Force personnel along with Police personnel were manning the vulnerable points of Kohima town and checking all vehicles passing through those points. Sources said that around 28 vehicles were caught breaking the total lockdown rules without any valid document or cause in various points in Kohima and penalised Rs. 200 for the first time offender, but with strict warning were given not to loiter and warned of severe actions will be taken from today for breaking lockdown rules without any valid cause. Shops dealing in essential commodities such as grocery and bakery items, vegetables, fish, meat, milk and animal feed etc. have been allowed to remain open from 6 AM to 12 noon. Kohima Deputy Commissioner yesterday informed that the wholesalers in BOC, Supermarket and High School Area have been permitted to open from 6 AM to 12 noon in order to maintain the supply chain to the shops in the colonies or wards and the villages

Dimapur and its suburban areas were well guarded with the strict vigil of DTF personnel and the police personnel at strategic locations to enforce the lockdown throughout the State. Only five vehicles were penalised for violating the Lock-down rules. Strict measures have been placed at the main entry-exit points of Dimapur town. The village and colony authorities have also pledged to assist the district administrations in ensuring strict compliance with the lockdown. As well those under exempted category, all activities and movement of people will remain suspended.

Similar reports are also pouring from the district headquarters on implementing the rules of Lock-down ordered by the state government, sources said.
