Hostels, ‘haats’ to re-open in Meghalaya

Shillong, Sep 18 (UNI) After remaining closed for over more than a year now due to the pandemic, students’ hostels and traditional ‘haats’ (markets) along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya have been permitted to re-open, albeit in strict adherence to safety measures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with relative improvement in the overall situation, officials said here on Saturday.

“Universities and college hostels are permitted to re-open subject to prior permission of the respective deputy commissioners/SDO (Civil) and in compliance with the SOPs being issued by the education department,” an order issued by State Chief Secretary, M S Rao said.
