Imphal, Jul 26 (UNI) Covid pandemic has made a new turn with possibility of community transmission in two districts and finding of a positive case at the CM Secretariat.
To stop spread of the disease, total lockdown was imposed for the fourth day today. Covid cases without travel history have been increasing daily and government has decided to tighten the noose around the virus by imposing shutdown.
A person working in the COVID-19 Common Control Room opened at the CM Secretariat was found positive on Saturday and the entire area was sanitised. Tracing of the contacts of the persons were going on and many staff of the Secretariat will be tested.
Thoubal and Jiribam districts were recording rise in Covid cases without travel history. Chief Minister N Biren said in a post in a social network platform that he convened a meeting of the COVID-19 State Consultative Committee and it was decided to strictly impose total lockdown.
Biren further said, Covid cases were also increasing among Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF personnel. He said, so far 63 CRPF, 45 AR, 15 BSF and 12 Army personnel were tested positive. He said, all of them had come from other states. Instructions were given to halt incoming movements of troops, he said. Local transmissions were also suspected at Churachandpur, Chil Chil CRPF camp, Leikhampokpi, Kangpokpi, he added.
The Covid positive cases is around 2,176 in the state. The number of active and recovered cases were 656 and 1,520 respectively. The recovery rate is 69.85 per cent.
Functioning in most of the hospitals including RIMS and JNIMS, the two main hospitals were also affected as many staff were reported Covid positive.
