Stretch along Meghalaya-Assam boundary declared ‘containment zone’

Shillong, Jul 18 (UNI) The Meghalaya government on Saturday declared the entire stretch from 13th Mile Tamulikuchi, Byrnihat, Baridua till Khanapara along the Meghalaya-Assam boundary a ‘containment zone’ with spurt of COVID-19 positive cases, even as health authorities maintained that there was no community transmission of the virus in the State as yet.
Ri-Bhoi District Magistrate Rosetta Mary Kurbah said the identified areas would continue to remain as ‘containment zone’ from July 19 to 26 during which period restriction on movement and gathering of people and other prohibitory orders would be in force.
As on Saturday evening, 15 more fresh cases were detected taking the active count in the State to 367.

Kolkata, Apr 19 (UNI) An estimated 66.34 percent of 5.6 million electorate exercised their franchise till 3 PM in the first phase election to three Lok Sabha seats in North Bengal with Cooch Behar, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri recording 65.54 per cent, 66.23 per cent and 67.28 per cent polling respectively.
