Army Officer in rank of Brigadier dies of suspected Covid in Kolkata

Kolkata, Jul 2 (UNI) A Brigadier rank Army officer, suspected to have caught Coronavirus,
died at Army hospital in the city today, local media reported.
The Brigadier, who was posted at Fort Williams, the headquarters of Eastern Command,
and identified as Vikash Shyamal, died early today at the Command Hospital in South
Kolkata.
The media report citing Army sources said the Brigadier had been admitted to the
Barrackpore Military Hospital where he was diagnosed with pandemic.
When his condition worsened, he was shifted to the Command Hospital in Alipur where
he breathed his last today, the report said adding the deceased was also suffering from
pneumonia.
The deceased's wife and two daughters had also been infected with pandemic but they
have recovered.
Identification was now on to find out who else had come with the contact of the Brigadier.
A bulletin of the state Health department said some 15 people have died of pandemic in
past 24 hours in the state.
The data was compiled upto 9 am on July 1, the report said.
Some 683 people have died of Covid-19 in the state since the first death was reported on
March 23 last.
