COVID 19 death toll in Assam rises to 9 as Chennai-returnee dies

Guwahati, Jun 18 (UNI) The number of COVID 19 deaths in Assam has increased to nine with one patient succumbing at Diphu Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in Karbi Anglong district of the state.
State Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has confirmed of the latest death today.
A youth, who had landed at Guwahati from Chennai by flight two days ago and had proceeded to Diphu for quarantine, was admitted at the DMCH yesterday after he complained of respiratory problems.
The youth died at the Hospital, while his swab test result today found his infected with COVID 19.
Meanwhile, 82 new positive cases of COVID 19 have been detected in the state today so far.
Out of this, 22 are from Baksa, 14 from Karbi Anglong and 11 from Chirang.
The total number of cases has increased to 4777 now, while the number of active cases stands at 2111.
Altogether 12 patients were also discharged during the day, taking the number of recovered cases to 2654.
