Chennai-returnee dies of COVID in Assam

Guwahati, Jun 18 (UNI) The COVID 19 death count in Assam increased to nine with a Chennai-returnee succumbing in Karbi Anglong district of the state, while the overall tally reached 4,861.

State Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has confirmed of the latest death today.

A youth, who had landed at Guwahati from Chennai by flight two days ago and had proceeded to Diphu for quarantine, was admitted at the Diphu Medical College and Hospital yesterday after he complained of respiratory problems.

The youth died at the hospital, while his swab test result later found him infected with COVID 19.

Meanwhile, 167 new positive cases of COVID 19 have been detected in the state today so far, taking the count to 4,861.

Out of this, 25 have been detected from Misamari military camp, 22 are from Baksa, 16 from Kamrup (M) and 14 from Karbi Anglong.

The number of active cases in the state now stands at 2195.

The number of discharged patients during the day exceeded the number of new cases in the state.
Altogether 194 patients were discharged from different hospitals, taking the number of recovered cases to 2,848.
