Bhubaneswar, Oct 1 (UNI) Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday extended the period for distribution of additional 5 KG of rice free to the beneficiaries covered under the State Food Security Scheme (SFSS) for another three months.
In December, 2021, five kg of free rice was distributed to SFSS beneficiaries and in March, 2022, the distribution was extended to April, 2022, and then to September, 2022.
Patnaik directed officials to provide additional 5 kg of rice to the beneficiaries per month for the months of October, November and December 2022.
As many as 9.05 lakh beneficiaries of 2.92 lakh families left out of the National Food Security Act will be benefitted by it.
The state government will have to spend Rs 49 crore to supply 13,575 MT of rice to the beneficiaries.
Earlier on September 28 last, the Union cabinet had decided to extend the free foodgrains distribution scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana (PMGKAY) for three more months beginning from October 2022.
