Come up with action plan to implement food fortification, says Meghalaya CS

Shillong, Oct 9 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Secretary M.S.Rao has asked the State Department of Education, Social Welfare and Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs to come up with a clear action plan with definite time frame to start implementing the food fortification in MDM, ICDS and PDS respectively, an official said on Friday.
A round table virtual meeting, chaired by State Chief Secretary M.S. Rao and organized by the Commissionerate of Food Safety (Health & Family Welfare) in collaboration with Karnataka Health Promotion Trust (KHPT) and Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) was held recently to discuss and plan for implementation of food fortification in Meghalaya.
In his keynote address, Rao stated that food fortification is a cost-effective strategy to eradicate the problem of micronutrient malnutrition.
