Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad greets people on Indrajatra festival

Gangtok, Aug 30 (UNI) On the auspicious occasion of ‘Indrajatra’, the festival of Newar community here, the Governor of Sikkim, Ganga Prasad has extended warm greetings to the people of Sikkim.
"The cultural festival of Indrajatra, associated with our Newai brethren is celebrated in the honour of deity Indra, the king of heaven as per Hindu mythology. Indrajatra is yet another manifestation of our cultural diversity which we are proud to display. It has added another colour to diverse Sikkimese tradition and its capacity to assimilate diversity," Governor said.
"May this festival be the occasion to celebrate our cross-cultural unity for a cause towards strengthening our social fabric. Let us all work for social cohesion and nurture peace, harmony and brotherhood prevailing in the State for posterity," he added.

COVID-19: Toll in Bengal rises to 6,604, cases touch 3,57,779

Kolkata, Oct 27 (UNI) The COVID-19 toll in Bengal rose to 6,604 with the death of 58
persons on Tuesday, while the tally touched 3,57,779 with 3,957 new confirmed cases.
According to the latest State Government Health bulletin, the active cases accounted
for 37,172, while the number of discharged cases stood at 3,14,003.
The percentage of discharged rose to 87.76 per cent.
