‘Bugun Liocichla Utsav-2021’ get underway in Arunachal

Itanagar, Oct 11 (UNI) The maiden ‘Bugun Liocichla Utsav-2021’, commemorating 15 years of discovery of the small babbler (20cm) with olive-grey plumage and a black cap, commenced at Eaglenest Pass under Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary and Lama Camp (Sharuwa) under Singchung Bugun Village Community Reserve, West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh on Monday.
The discovery of bird species ‘Bugun Liocichla’ was first officially published in 2006 by astrophysicist Ramana Athreya. The bird’s name was derived from the Bugun tribe of West Kameng district in whose community forests the species was discovered.
Declaring the Bugun Liocichla Utsav at Eaglenest Pass open, Environment and Forests Minister Mama Natung said that the Bugun Liocichla is the pride of Arunachal Pradesh which has made the Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary (EWLS) and Singchung Bugun Village Community Reserve (SBVCR) a must-visit destination for tourists and wildlife aficionados.
