Shillong, Oct 4 (UNI) The BJP which with two assembly seats is a constituent of the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), has decided to contest only one seat of the three vacant seats for the upcoming assembly by-polls in the State, scheduled to be held on October 30, State party president Ernest Mawrie said on Monday.
"We have decided to contest only in Rajabala assembly constituency since our party membership in Mawphlang and Mawryngkneng assembly constituencies have not crossed the 1,500 mark," Mawrie said after announcing the name of Kingstone B. Marak as the party candidate from the constituency in the Garo Hills.
"According to our party rules, we can field candidates in those constituencies where our membership is 1500. As of now, we have over 700 members in Mawryngkneng constituency and nearly 1000 members in Mawphlang constituency," the State BJP chief explained.
