Nearly 55 percent polling in first phase of Bihar Assembly Elections

Patna, Oct 28 (UNI) An estimated 55 percent of the total 2,14, 84, 787 electorate exercised
their franchise in 71 seats, sealing fates of 1066 candidates in EVMs during first of three
phased Bihar Assembly Elections amid tight security arrangements, which was first general
elections in Corona pandemic in the country.
As per reports received here, an estimated 55 percent electorate exercised their franchise
in first of three phased Bihar Assembly Elections which passed off peacefully. Bihar
Assembly Elections is the first general Election in the country in Corona pandemic.
FIR was lodged against BJP candidate from Gaya (Town) seat and Bihar Agriculture
Minister Prem Kumar for violation of model code conduct. Mr Kumar had reached booth
No.120 pedalling Cycle, wearing mask with photo of Lotus, election symbol of BJP. The
act of Mr Kumar was considered as case of violation of model code of conduct and an
FIR was lodged against him.
Congress candidate Sumant Kumar of Tekari was attacked by supporters of his political
opponents. He escaped unhurt while his vehicle was damaged heavily.
Altogether 114 women among total of 1066 candidates are in fray. A total number of 31,380
EVMs and as many VVPats were made available at booths to enable electorate too exercise
their franchise without any difficulty, he added.
