Dimapur DC warns against ‘shoot at sight’ order on pets

Kohima, May 30 (UNI) The Dimapur deputy commissioner has warned that some village and ward authorities, individual and groups has issued “shoot-at-sight” order for pets, especially dogs, which is a punishable offence under Section 3, section II (1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.

Official sources said the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur Anoop Khinchi in an order has warned that any village, ward authority or any person acting in contravention to the Act would be liable to legal proceedings under Section 428 & 429 of IPC and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.
Moreover, in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and establishment of quarantine centres in different parts of the district, the Deputy Commissioner has directed all pet owners to keep their pets within the boundary of their respective house owners. Pet owners have also been advised to ensure that their pets did not loiter around the village or colony and that the pets were not a source of nuisance to others, sources said.
