PM lays foundation for innovative housing project in Tripura with five others

Agartala, Jan 1 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Governors and Chief Ministers
of eight states including Tripura laid foundation of Light House Project (LHP) under Prime
Minister’s Awas Yojana to be coming up in the capital city of Tripura on virtual platform to
ensure housing for all by 2022.
Besides, Agartala – the only in Northeast, LHP as part of Global Housing Technology Challenge-India (GHTC- India) initiative has also been unveiled in Ranchi of Jharkhand,
Lucknow of Uttar Pradesh, Indore of Madhya Pradesh, Rajkot of Gujarat and Chennai of
Tamil Nadu on the same day.
The proposed LHP here would be constructed using New Zealand technology near Indo-Bangladesh border to provide 1000 flats for poor people residing in slum areas where
subsidy of Rs 9 lakh to Rs 11 lakh for the purchase of flats would be given to the beneficiaries
and the remain a few lakh rupees would be bought from the bank at low interest loans.
“The lighthouses of six cities would be used in different world class technology, each one of
them would become an incubation centre for our technocrats. The earthquake resilient steel structure technology of New Zealand will be used for LHP in Agartala while innovative
construction technology of Finland, Germany, Canada and America would be used for other
cities. As a result, within a year all LHP would come into use,” Prime Minister said while
addressing the event.
He urged technical institutes including IITs and NITs to send budding engineers in each of
the LHP sites for a particular period to learn the new technologies for decide the future
construction strategies of India and added, “We are using six different world technologies on experiment basis, which can be replicated directly or with certain modifications of local
situations by our technocrats.”
The prime Minister envisaged that LHPs will usher an affordable and decent housing for the
urban poor within the timeline under GHTC- India involves skill, speed and scale aspects for implementation of innovative and fast track construction technologies from across the world,
which would be replicated later in other cities
LHP comes up with alternate technology suitable to the geo-climatic and hazard conditions
of the region. The structural details shall be designed to meet the durability and safety
requirements of applicable loads including earthquakes and cyclones and flood as applicable
in accordance with the applicable international standards.
He has also launched a certificate course on innovative construction technologies - New, Affordable, Validated, Research Innovation Technologies for Indian Housing and a compendium
of 54 innovative housing construction technologies identified through GHTC-India.
Addressing the gathering Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb applauded Prime Minister
Modi for launching of such an innovative project for marginalize section of the society and said,
“The development has been redefined in Northeast especially for Tripura under Modi’s
leadership and people of the region are brought under different initiatives at par with other parts
of the country, which was not even thought by previous government.”
