Gangtok, Jan 22 ( UNI ) Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang has presented a memorandum
to Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Thursday and pressed for Tribal Status
to all the left out communities in the state.
He has also apprised him about Social,Economic conditions and Cultural traits of the
communities in question being similar.
The chief minister attracted attention of Minister Shah towards Tripartite agreement
between the then Rular Chogyal of Sikkim,Govt of India and elected Representatives
during the merger with India ,earlier, said SD Dhakal, Secretary to CM.
Mr Tamang made it a point to demand reservation of seats for Tribal Limboos and
Tamangs in the Legislature here.
He has expressed gratitude for allowing His Holiness 17th Karmapa Orgyen Thinley
Dorjee to visit Sikkim early at his discretion.
Sikkim has been pressing for inclusion of 12 left out communities under STs ( in the
Article 342 list of Scheduled Tribes) . Out of total sixteen communities on record, four
are already Tribals.
