COVID patient died in ambulance for oxygen: Infrastructure needs boosting

Ambassa (Tripura), Sep 6 (UNI) In an alarming and shocking happening, a 62-years old COVID positive patient died in front of his son inside the ambulance on his journey to District COVID Care Centre as there was no technician in the ambulance to fit the available oxygen cylinder in the northern Tripura district of Dhalai here yesterday.
Yesterday, one Bikash Ranajan Paul (62) of Manughat, a tailor by profession, went to Manughat PHC with some ailments along with his only son Pritam. There they were tested and found positive for COVID-19. Then Bikash Ranajan was referred to COVID Care Centre and the father-son duo started their journey along with six other positive patients already inside the ambulance. As the health department staff only the driver Pratap Kumar Deb was with the ambulance. Pritam, the son of Bikash Ranajan Paul alleged, "As the ambulance entered the hilly areas of Longthorai hill range my father started to feel problems in breathing. There was an oxygen cylinder in the ambulance. I pleaded for providing oxygen to save his life but there was no technician and hence my father died in front of me in the ambulance".
About the most tragic incident, the Chief Medical Officer of the district Dr. Chitan Debbarma said, "The patient probably suffered from sudden lowering of blood pressure which happens frequently in COVID patients. It resulted into shortage of oxygen and the patients died".
