AHRC notice on ‘non-compliance’ of COVID protocols in Assam jails

Guwahati, Jul 21 (UNI) The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has ordered the state chief secretary and the IGP (Prisons) to conduct an enquiry into allegations of non-compliance of COVID 19 protocol at Guwahati Central Jail and other prisons of the state.
Taking cognizance of a complaint made by Leader of the Opposition in Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia alleging gross negligence in providing necessary healthcare and diet to the inmates of Guwahati Central Jail and other jails of Assam, along with general non-compliance with COVID 19 protocol, the AHRC has ordered the enquiry and asked for submission of report in this connection to the Commission on or before August five.
The order was passed yesterday by Justice T Vaiphei, Chairperson of the Commission, and Members Naba Kamal Bora and Deva Kumar Saikia.
