Guwahati, Oct18 (UNI) Several houses and shops were torched by unidentified miscreants in Lailapur area of Silchar district in Assam late last night, with locals alleging involvement of people from Mizoram across the border.
Though there is simmering tension along Assam-Mizoram inter-state border at Lailapur following the flare up, the situation is under control, official sources said.
Assam Environment and Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya visited on Lailapur today, and interacted with the local people to defuse the tension.
