THRC slaps fine of Rs 1L on a police sub-inspector for human rights violation

Agartala, Sep 27 (UNI) Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) on Wednesday directed the state government to pay Rs 100,000 to the victim who was beaten up by the public in the presence of police in the city in September last year and asked the home department to realize the money from the account of the police sub-inspector who detained the victim.
A THRC release said one Mani Das (Shib) of Narsingarh in the airport area of the city lodged a complaint with the Commission that two persons identified as Suman Miah and Rabbil Miah forcibly brought her husband, Sujit Kumar Shib, to the airport police station from the house.
While he was escorted by accused police sub-inspector Biswajit Das to Ramnagar Outpost in connection with a case investigation, a group of people beat him mercilessly on the way when Shib was under police protection. Mina filed a complaint with the THRC, based on which the Commission ordered the Director General of Police to investigate the matter, and the Commission's investigation wing has also carried out a parallel inquiry into the allegation.
