Tripura launches two days Musk enforcement drive to contain Covid spread

Agartala, Sep 18 (UNI) With the observation of experts over the spike of Covid-19 cases
in Tripura in past few weeks, the state government today launched a two day special
enforcement drive against non-wearing musk across the state.
Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar in a notification stated that the government observed Musk Enforcement Days on September 18-19 and apart from awareness for wearing musk, police
will enforce the provision of Tripura Epidemic Disease Covid-19 Regulations, 2020 intensively
in these days..
All the district magistrates have constituted several enforcement teams under their jurisdiction
along with armed police personnel and the enforcement against non-wearing of musk have
begun since morning in different markets, roads and localities across the state to ensure that no
one should come out from home with musk or face cover, Kumar said.
“Besides, penalties on the offenders and other legal actions, the enforcement team would also educate the people about the necessity of musk at this stage and proper use of face musk.
Most of the people use musk as a show but not cover the face and nose properly. The experts observed that improper use of musk and not maintaining physical distance in public places has
caused the surge of Covid cases in Tripura,” he stated.
The three members’ expert team comprises of Dr Daisy Panna, Consultant Epidemiologist,
National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and Dr P K Verma, Assistant Prof Respiratory
Medicine, Lady Hardinge Memorial College (LHMC) and Dr Satyajit Sen, Senior Regional
Director (HFW) of Kolkata has been on ten days visit to Tripura has advised the government
to enforce wearing of musk and maintaining physical distance at all the places to arrest the
spread of disease.
According to report, as many as 10,560 persons have been arrested between March 24
and September 14 for violating curfew and lockdown guidelines. While police seized 526
vehicles for violation of Covid preventive measures and collected Rs 2.57 Cr as fine so far.
Tripura has registered over 21000 Covid-19 positive cases and 231 deaths so far.
Tripura is in 8th position in terms of samples testing with 86,599 tests per million. The
positivity rate of Tripura stands at 5.98 percent while the mortality rate stands at 1.10
and 13,599 people recovered so far.
