Concern over rise in substance abuse in Meghalaya

Shillong, Oct 9 (UNI) The Meghalaya government on Friday has expressed concern over the “steep rise” in substance abuse in the State, even as several measures have been initiated to check the menace.
State Director of Social Welfare department, D D Shira, who was the chief guest at the launching ceremony of the ‘Nasha-Mukt Bharat’ campaign, organized by the East Khasi Hills District Administration and District Social Welfare Office, expressed concern over the “steep rise” in the number of substance abuse cases in the State, which, he said, “has hampered the progress of the State”.
Concern has also been raised from several quarters over the growing drug menace in the State, especially in the capital city, from where several drug peddlers, most of who come from outside, are almost routinely rounded up by the police,

Patna, Apr 19 (UNI) Despite best efforts made by Election Commission and appeals from top leaders and celebrities, poll percentage in first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Bihar could reach only 48.23 per cent, which is 5.24 per cent less than polling of 2019 general elections in the state.
