Meghalaya Drug Abuse Prevention Policy released

Shillong, Sep 11 (UNI) The Meghalaya Drug Abuse Prevention Policy, 2020 was released by the State social welfare minister Kyrmen Shylla, who launched the ‘Nasha-Mukt Bharat’ campaign at the Yjana Bhavan, Main Secretariat here Friday.
Drugs and other intoxicants pose a “serious problem” in the State with dangerous consequences and has affected families and the society, Social Welfare minister, Kyrmen Shylla said, even as he expressed concern over the steep rise in the number of substance abuse cases in the State and the country as a whole prompting the Government of India to initiate the ‘Nasha-Mukt Bharat’ campaign, aimed at curbing the menace of drug addiction.
As per the report published on the Magnitude of Substance Abuse in India 2019, Meghalaya’s current users of alcohol is 3.4 per cent, cannabis 1.68 per cent, opioid 6.34 per cent, sedatives 0.95 per cent, cocaine 0.05 per cent and inhalants 0.8 per cent.

Shillong, Oct 31 (UNI) Active COVID-19 positive cases have declined in Meghalaya over the past one week with the number dropping down to 1,019 with 70 new cases and one more death due to the infection registered on Saturday, even as 220 more recoveries took the number of recovered persons so far to 8,345.
