Meghalaya imposes complete lockdown in East Khasi Hills district

Shillong, May 5 (UNI) In view of the rapid surge in COVID-19 infections, the Meghalaya Government on Wednesday announced a “complete lockdown” in East Khasi Hills district, which includes State capital Shillong, from 8 pm this evening, till 5 a.m of May 10.
With 1,298 active COVID-19 cases and 156 deaths, the East Khasi Hills district, which includes the state capital Shillong, is the most affected district in the State.
“There would be a complete lockdown in East Khasi Hills from 8 pm tonight (May 5) till 5 a.m of May 10. This means that the remaining containment period of five days is converted to lockdown. Therefore, more restrictions are coming in,” Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced this afternoon after chairing a review meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Health and Family Welfare Minister, Alexander Laloo Hek and senior government officials.
