Bengal wears deserted look following complete lockdown to break Covid chain

Kolkata, Jul 25 (UNI) Faced with increasing cases of Coronavirus pandemic and spike in toll, the city police and its districts counterparts swung into action to enforce statewide "complete lockdown', which commenced at 6 AM on Saturday.
The State government announced two days of lockdown in a week and observed a
near total lockdown on Thursday (July 23).
The same will be followed on July 29 and another date will be fixed on Monday after
assessing the situation across the state.
The State Government was hoping the rigorous implementation of "no movement in
public" would break the chain of the dreaded Coronavirus in West Bengal.
This metropolis wore a deserted look as police forces were deployed at different
junctions to enforce complete lockdown.
Health services, medicines shops and other emergency services were exempted from
the purview of lockdown.
Kolkata Police in its twitter post said, " Masks are the most potent of weapons in Fight
Against Corona. Ensuring that they are worn properly is no less important."
No flights will operate from Kolkata airport and fair price ration shops remained closed
following complete lockdown.
All the government and private offices remained closed.
" Factories and construction work with on-site labour involving no travel allowed on
23.7.20, 25.7.20 and 29.7.20 (lockdown days), " said a government notification.
Petrol pumps were asked to keep open and supply fuel to those vehicles having
permission to ply.
