Bihar: Shifting of people commences in areas facing flood threats

Patna, Jul 20 (UNI) Heavy rains in catchment areas of Gandak and Bagmati rivers in North Bihar, has raised the possibility of floods and shifting of people started in West Champaran and Gopalganj Districts while officials concerned have also been put on alert to meet any exigency.
Secretary of Water Resources Development Department Sanjeev Hans told media persons here that heavy to very heavy rains were recorded in catchment areas of Bagamati and Gandak river. It was more than what had been predicted by weather department, he added.
Mr Hans said that out of of 22 stations monitored for rain falls, six stations recorded rain falls of more than 100 mm during the last 12 hours. Heavy rains was recorded in several areas of north Bihar, increasing the possibility of floods, he added.
